Having said all this, is there another solution that would allow my external drive to work on this iMac with a true thunderbolt connection? TIA,Alex 101 2

I heard somewhere that updating to the latest version of Sierra would allow option 1 to work for my setup, but I don't think it's that easy. My audio interface is a Focusrite Clarett8Pre- and this IS connected to Thunderbolt to the iMac. Using the Glyph's usb c to usb 3.0 cable to the USB input of the iMac works, but my only challenge now is the fear of any recording latency I will have since I am not connected via thunderbolt for the drive. The Glyph never showed up on my iMac desktop. Thinking backwards, I ran the Thunderbolt 2 came out of the iMac and connected the apple Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter into the Glyph. The reason I want the Thunderbolt connection is to not experience latency issues recording Logic Pro X music directly to the drive. I am wanting to hook this up to my iMac, which only has the Thunderbolt 2 connections, and have tried a few things with no luck. The unit came with one usb-c to usb-c cable, and one usb-c to ubs 3.0 cable. How can I connect an external USB-C drive to a Thunderbolt 2 iMac? I have a Glyph external hard drive that only has a USB-C out. I wouldn't be worried necessarily about taking advantage of the Thunderbolt speed at this point, and so hoped there might be a cable adapter chain I could use to make it work in the meantime.I'm sure there are all kinds of architectural reasons this wouldn't work, but figured I'd ask just in case.Thanks! 129 2 My current audio interface is FW400 and 10 years old, so I plan to retire it.This Mac Pro doesn't have FW800, only 400, and some (early generation?) USB ports. I'm looking to get a UA Arrow Thunderbolt 3 audio interface to use with the iMac, but wondered if I get the interface early if there's any way to hook it up to my Mac Pro to try it out and get used to it. My dilemma runs in the opposite direction.I have an early 2008 Mac Pro which I plan to replace with a newer iMac within the next couple of months. Thunderbolt 3 device to firewire 400 port? This is probably a ridiculous question, but I've searched the web and could really only find people wanting to connect an old Firewire device to a newer computer's Thunderbolt port.
